The 4 Best SERP Trackers for an X-Ray Understanding of Your Keyword Rankings

You’ve done your on-page SEO, created some great content and built some quality backlinks

Now what?

It’s time to track your SERP rankings

Knowing where your keywords rank in the SERPs is one of the most important ways to measure the success of your SEO campaign.

But there are so many tools that claim to help you do this—and not many of them allow you to do it well.

This article is a comparison of four of my personal favorite tools for the job: Monitor Backlinks, Serpfox, SpySerp and SERPWoo.

These are, in my opinion, the best SERP trackers currently available on the market. And they each have their own strengths!

So make sure you try them all to get a feel for which one works best for you.

Now, let’s get to it!

The 4 Best SERP Trackers for an X-Ray Understanding of Your Keyword Rankings

For each of these tools, I’ll be focusing only on their features that directly relate to SERP tracking and competitor SERP tracking.

Monitor Backlinks

Monitor Backlinks is a highly versatile tool that, as you can tell by the name, doesn’t put the spotlight on its rank tracking ability.

But its Rank Tracker is one of the best I’ve come across. The SERP data is accurate and regularly updated, and you get automatic email updates to let you know of ranking changes (for both you and your competitors).

Start by adding your competitors to Monitor Backlinks, and the keywords you want to track. Then, open up the Rank Tracker dashboard for customized insights.

On the first chart, you get an overview of the average rankings of your highest performing keywords over a certain period of time (Last Month, 3 months, Last Year, Forever).

You also get an average ranking for all of your keywords in total, which is a pretty helpful plotline as long as you add all the keywords you want to rank for to the tool.

If you scroll down, you’ll be able to track how you perform for your target keywords compared to your competitors for those same keywords. This will help you identify if you’re making progress against your competition over the long term.

Underneath the Average Rankings vs. Competitors chart, you get specific keyword performance. This is the list of all the keywords you’ve added to Monitor Backlinks for tracking, along with their current ranking and the progress they’re making alongside your competitors’ rankings.

Keyword ranking data is updated automatically every seven days, which makes tracking your SERP performance as easy as checking your dashboard once a week.

From here you can also add tags to selected keywords to help you organize them, remove them and export them as a .CSV file for further analysis or to share with your team.

It’s also worth pointing out that you can specify a rank tracking location if you only want to see stats from search results in a certain country or region.

Serpfox

Serpfox is an effective SERP tracking tool that’s big on simplicity and user-friendliness. Keyword rank tracking is all it does (and it does it very well!).

You can start adding keywords as soon as you’ve created an account. Serpfox makes it easy to add keywords in bulk and narrow down your targeting for each group of keywords you add.

You can specify a URL, language, search engine, location, platform (desktop, mobile or both) and group name (if you’ve created one already) to organize your keyword list.

Then import your keyword data and you’ll get an overview of your rankings based on the options you’ve chosen.

You can use the two tabs at the top of the page to view your keywords “By URL” or “By Group.”

“By URL” (shown above) is useful for looking at your keywords based on their ranking URL, and “By Group” (shown below) is good for tracking your rankings over different locations, search engines or platforms.

With your keywords now added to Serpfox, you can start setting up customized reports for previously collected data.

Just choose your format (PDF, PDF with graphs, HTML, CSV and more) and date range for the report.

You can also schedule reports for future dates to deliver automatically once the data is collected.

Overall, Serpfox is extremely easy to find your way around, and keyword data is imported promptly after adding your keywords for tracking (which isn’t the case even with top SEO tools such as Moz).

SpySerp

Unlike Serpfox, SpySerp is a pretty complicated SERP tracker to use, and to me, it falls a bit short on the usability side.

While I still think this is a fantastic tool, it’s more geared for larger companies with big data and people who are more experienced with this kind of software. For the average user, this might just be too much of what you don’t need.

Still, I’d advise you to take SpySerp for a spin, because if you have more SEO experience than the average user it might prove really useful for you.

To get started with SpySerp, you need to create a project and specify your preferred options by following the steps in the wizard (search engines, domains, keywords and schedule).

Once you finish typing in the necessary information, you’ll get a full overview of how well you rank for your targeted keywords.

Plus, in the Analytics section, SpySerp turns the data fetched from your competitors’ websites into to-the-point charts that give you a bird’s-eye view of your average keyword position, keyword count, keyword visibility and more.

What all of this ends up meaning to you is that you stay completely current on where your keywords are in the SERPs, and you can continuously keep an eye on your competitors just as you do your own website.

And one more interesting feature to point out before we move onto the next tool:

SpySerp has a Telegram group available to its users which you can join to communicate with other members and the SpySerp team.

Most of the conversations are held in Russian, but members do speak English as well so don’t hesitate to step in and get some help from the group!

SERPWoo

best-serp-tracker

SERPWoo is another full-featured tool, but focused on organization and streamlining in a way that a lot of other tools often aren’t, which makes it easy and enjoyable to track your SERP rankings.

To get started, create a new project using SERPWoo’s project wizard.

By following the project wizard, you’ll set up your preferred countries, keywords, domains/URLs and settings for your project without breaking a sweat.

When your data is ready, SERPWoo will give you the health of your campaign at a glance.

You’ll be presented with a number of data points such as how many keywords are rising, falling, occupying the #1 position, and other important changes in your SERP rankings.

SERPWoo also gives you other metrics that could be pretty useful if you’re conducting an in-depth analysis of your keyword rankings, such as domain PR, domain age, Alexa Rank and social shares.

Best SERP Tracker Wrap-up

In my opinion, these are the four best SERP trackers you can get, and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

They each shine in different areas so I’d recommend trying them all out to see what fits you best.

The most important thing is that they’re all reliable, trusted by many and easy to use, so you can grow your business with any of them.

Good luck!
